In 1995, the ACI received a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grant for the production of Show Me!, which was funded in part by a federal grant for cultural organizations that was distributed by the NEA to support the production and presentation of the Show Me! photograph collection in theater performances and exhibitions. The grant paid for the production of a 571-page magazine, special editions of the book, and publication of the Show Me! album. The film received poor critical response, but was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The female lead, Yvette Mimieux, won the award for Best Actress. The book and the film were banned in Boston and Boston University.[16]
