Pioneer is to launch what it calls a 'high definition disc'. This will comprise a 75mm diameter disc with a picture resolution of 1,85,600 pixels and a digital sound quality of 48KHz/32bit. There will be two track modes: Standard which will allow listening to the disc as a single disc and Live which will play back the current track.

The $699 model has all the features of the $499 version in addition to a full 40cm plasma display and a 16cm hard-disc recorder/player (CD-RW/CD-ROM recorder, CD-R/CD-ROM recorder, DVD recorder/player).

Pioneer's latest CD/DVD player, the D-S200S, is a compact, single-deck, CD and DVD recorder/player with built-in speakers. The player is encased in a grey plastic case with a white faceplate and has a remote control, headphone socket and automatic disc changer. The player is available in two versions: a'standard' ($499) and a 'live' ($699) one. The $499 player has a 20cm hard-disc recorder/player (CD-RW/CD-ROM recorder, CD-R/CD-ROM recorder, DVD recorder/player), a 20cm CD-ROM/CD-RW drive, a 12cm CD-ROM drive, a 30cm CD-ROM drive, a 30cm DVD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, a 30cm CD-RW/CD-ROM drive, a 30cm DVD-RW/DVD-ROM drive and a 15cm display panel.

TiVo, the digital video recorder, is announced in February. The Brits launch the first 8mm video tape with Dolby Surround, while the French release the same format as PAL and the Germans are still producing Beta tapes. Japan's N-TV introduces the P-CAM and Sony completes the home VCR with Dolby Digital Surround. Germany's 'Digitalk' labels its VHS as Beta and only DV is 'on-air' in Holland.

i have all my X-Files episodes on VHS, of course i never watch them, i just keep them for the 3rd time round. so, i'll buy some DTS Demo discs in the future, maybe i'll try to gather some extra content from ntsc tapes, and send em to Tomsos with a nice package and think he'll be happy to receive it....
