The Dolby Atmos sound mix is familiar, and while the score is a bit less dynamic than the original trilogy, it has a nice presence on Dolby's premium surround speakers. The disc also includes the original trilogy's Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. The pristine 1080p image (alongside Dolby Vision HDR) and stellar audio adds up to a strong package for all fans.
The Bottom Line. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a spiritual sequel to the original trilogy, which is sort of a big deal for most fans. That said, it's also the end of the prequel films, and it's a strong closing to a trilogy that has had some rough patches. The Last Jedi was the first to really nail the Marvel-like pacing of the original trilogy, and the combination of a delightful script, strong performances, and a great soundtrack really adds up to a nice trio of films. 4/5
The first two movies on Ultra HD were both excellent, and, despite the level of quality of Episode III, I imagine it will be the best-looking of the prequel trilogy on UHD. I'll likely test it out. I'm interested to see how well these movies will perform when they come out on Ultra HD. Hopefully they don't take down the quality.
The movie opens with a more traditional prequel-style look at the original trilogy. The two young, red-haired Anakin Skywalker siblings, now 10 years old, are studying on a planet with their friend Padmé Amidala. Padmé's personal security padawan, Ahsoka Tano, is also present. As they leave the planet to return to their home planet, Anakin seems to have a flash-back to his previous life as a young boy who was left to fend for himself as the sole Jedi in the galaxy. He is saved by Padmé in the midst of a battle. Their ship crash lands on the planet of Mustafar and they are nearly killed by a pair of bounty hunters, but Anakin manages to evade them. They find a cave nearby and Padmé falls asleep on a rock, apparently dead.
