The first half of the movie revolves around the family trying to renovate the house and succeed to do so. Krish and Lakshmi are now wary of the family and their intentions since they are not aware of the family’s past. Meanwhile, the son Prakash and his wife Maya (Nandini) have moved into their new house in a village near Kashmir. Maya’s mother and Ganesh are the reason for his marriage with Maya. He and Ganesh have been married for 12 years and have a son named Ravi. Prakash finds the nature of his father very strange. His father’s second wife, Maya, is distant from him. Meanwhile, Ganeshani, who is also Prakash’s mother, and Dr. Krish get along well.

The second half of the movie shows the past of the family in 1934. The director shows the excitement of the family in the beginning in a very short span of time. Krish is very successful in his profession, but is not happy with his family life. He fights with Lakshmi often and they have to frequently talk to each other. Krish’s mother (Sumalatha) wants Krish to get married and the daughter feels this would be the answer for Krish to get back his lost happiness. After the marriage of Krish, Lakshmi, Ganesh and Ganeshani all get back to their mother’s house and they are happy except for Krish. Lakshmi wants Krish to give up his profession and stay at home with her and the daughter. Krish also finds this impossible and so starts his profession again.

The mother of the new house owner is Lakshmi’s great grandmother (Bhubaneswari) and due to the mother’s mental condition the family moved out of their house. The son left the house after father’s death in the 1930s. Since then the daughter Ganeshani (Mayuri), her son Raju (Daniel George) and his son Prakash (Akshay Kumar) have been trying to get back the house. Now the house has fallen in disrepair and needs to be renovated.

But when she turns 18 she tells Krish that she will not marry him. She says that she is destined to marry someone else. This upsets Krish who then ignores her. But his mother Lakshmi and the powerful uncle of Krish's mother his Satish (Vinay Pathak) persuade Krish to marry Sreeni. Sreeni is proud that Krish has promised to marry her. But as soon as Krish and Lakshmi marries and the couple move into their house Krish realises that Sreeni is only a child and he becomes distant from her. Sreeni and Krish don't understand the reason for this. Krish then confides in his mother Lakshmi and tells her that Sreeni is pregnant.
