Just Ignore Them Torrent Download [HOT]

This is all well and good. I don't want people downloading stuff throughtorrents. My solution is to block the users of my distribution who are usingtorrents, and instead install a bittorrent tracker. I don't do this, because it's too easy for a user to work around, and I'm not all that confident in my bittorrent client. I spend too muchtime on this distro, and I'm not all that concerned about people whowant to pirate things. But I also really dislike torrents, so I just deactivated the tracker. But this is why you need to use a tracker, and get to work on one. You want a bittorrent tracker not becausethere's no tracker. You want one because when you find a torrent witha tracker, you're way more likely to find legit torrents.

One thing I'll say is that your desktop torrent client should be able todisplay a site's torrent in a browser. That way you can see how manypeople are downloading a torrent. One of the few occasions when I'veseen a bittorrent client actually do something useful.

Bittorrent is not just for the scammer. Some people use it to downloadlegitimate software. Ugly, I know. Some users of my distribution may have aused a bittorrent to download a legit program. But it's still a badidea.

I'd add a note to our documentation about the Bittorrent protocol. I know that some of our users have written tutorials, but some of them do not, and that includes the man who wrote the bittorrent daemon. I can't sit here and read every article and document about bittorrent. What I do I read an article from thebeginning, and that's what I learn.

That said, I recommend torrenting content that's not available for sale. Ifyou don't do it, it will never be available. PirateBay has successfully fought numerous takedown notices, but in each casethey've eventually relented and restored the torrent. To be clear, you can'tactually download something from P2P that isn't freely available. It'sa violation of copyright, and you can be prosecuted.

Next, sign up for a premium account on one of the major P2P sites. I stronglyrecommend The Pirate Bay . It's the mostpopular torrent site on the planet, and I always check there first. If it'snot available, I'll use a less well-known torrent site.

If youre torrenting, in general, you shouldnt be downloading content from some random server. It might be hacked and be using DHT or other P2P protocols to distribute the files. If youre torrenting, dont hack the source of that torrent, just torrent it.
